Everton has placed a £ 70 million price tag on Amadou Onana this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The 21-year-old midfielder has been a breakthrough star at Goodison Park this season and has begun drawing attention from rival Premier League clubs.
Arsenal and Chelsea are among the clubs interested in signing Onana this summer, but both London sides are cautious about meeting Everton’s asking price.
That £ 70 million fee could be slashed considerably if Everton suffers relegation this season. The Toffees currently sit 17th in the table, one point clear of the drop zone.
Football Insider sources revealed on Saturday (1 April) that Everton has accepted that Onana will leave the club this summer if relegated.
The Merseyside club is struggling financially, recording losses of £ 120.9 million in their latest financial report.
They are aware that funds will need to be raised and the wage bill reduced, especially in the event of relegation. Onana is seen as one of the club’s most valuable assets and could be made available for sale at the end of the season.
The Belgium international has made 28 appearances this season across all competitions, featuring in all but one Premier League fixture for Everton.
Everton spent £ 33 million to bring Onana to the club from Lille in the summer, and they will want to pocket a considerable profit whether they survive or go down.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea are weighing up bids, but both clubs have drawn up shortlists of multiple midfield targets for the summer window.
