Leicester City interested in signing Italian goalkeeper from serie A

The latest Leicester City news from LeicestershireLive brings you the reported interest in Italian goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo

Leicester City is reportedly interested in signing Hellas Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo in the summer.

The 27-year-old joined the Serie A side last year from second-division side Benevento. His standout performances in the top flight have attracted interest from clubs, including Galatasaray.

The Turkish side has “requested information” according to the Italian outlet Calcio Mercato. However, it is said that City is in the “front row” to secure his services in the summer.

His price tag is said to be dependent on whether the Serie A side can stay in the division and therefore, his future will only be discussed after the season concludes. They are currently fighting for survival in 18th place, after winning just six games.

It is unclear whether City would still be interested in signing the Italian shot-stopper if they fail to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The latest Leicester City news as the former City boss has been linked with a return to the Premier League in the summer with West Ham United.

Former Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has been linked with a return to Premier League football with West Ham United, following his exit from the King Power Stadium.

The Northern Irishman left the club by mutual consent earlier this month, following a late defeat against Crystal Palace. The 2-1 defeat left City in the Premier League relegation zone, where they still remain. The side currently sits in the 19th position. Former Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has been brought in to steer City to safety.

The city fell to a 3-1 defeat against title-chasing Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in his first game in charge, but there were positives to take from the second-half performance. Smith will take charge of his first home game on Saturday when the Wolves visit the King Power Stadium.

The change of management came after Rodgers spent just over four years at the club. City finished in fifth place and won a first-ever FA Cup in his first full two seasons in charge, but poor results and performances over the last two seasons led to a decision being made.

Since his dismissal, Rodgers has been linked with a quick return to management. Tottenham will be looking for a new manager in the summer, with Rodgers’ name already mentioned.

According to the Guardian, Rodgers is now also ‘in the frame’ for the job at West Ham United, with David Moyes under increasing pressure at the London Stadium. The report says that Paulo Fonseca has been identified as the ‘ideal’ replacement for the Scotsman, but also names Rodgers as an option.

West Ham are in 15th place in the Premier League. Their performances this season have led to speculation over the future of Moyes, with it said that the Hammers could opt to make a change in the summer.

It is also added that West Ham is ‘likely to consider’ former Chelsea boss Graham Potter, who has also been linked with a move to City in the summer after Smith’s contract expires at the end of the season.
