Championship boss top of Leicester City’s summer managerial shortlist

Swansea City boss Russell Martin is being eyed by Leicester City if they get relegated.

A win on Monday at home to West Bromwich Albion would see Swansea City secure a top-10 Championship finish.

Indeed, it has been a very strong end to the campaign for the Swans, who are unbeaten in their last eight league matches heading into the final day of the season.

Whilst things are looking positive heading into the summer, some bad news could be just around the corner, though.

Russell Martin to Leicester City – what is the latest news?

That is according to reports that have emerged recently, which suggest that a current Premier League side is considering a move for the Swans’ boss this summer.

Indeed, according to The Sun, top-flight strugglers Leicester City will target the 37-year-old if they go on to get relegated to the Championship.

At present, the Foxes have Dean Smith in charge, with the former Norwich and Aston Villa boss having taken over from Brendan Rodgers on a short-term deal until the end of the season in an attempt to steer the club clear of the drop.

Currently, Leicester sits 16th in the Premier League and above the drop zone, but only on goal difference.

Indeed, they are just one point ahead of Everton in 19th and level on points with Nottingham Forest and Leeds United in 18th and 17th respectively.

With just four matches to go, things could go either way for the Foxes at this stage.

Will Swansea let Russell Martin leave if Leicester makes an approach?

Naturally, one would imagine Swansea would want to keep hold of their talented young coach.

Indeed, if he were to go, it is claimed that the Swans would demand a compensation fee for his services.

However, as is pointed out in the above report, the club has little bargaining power in this regard due to Martin having just one-year remaining on his current deal at the club.

Would Russell Martin be a good appointment for Leicester City?

It would definitely be an interesting appointment where the Foxes go down.

Martin has shown himself able to get a side playing excellent football at this level. However, at Swansea, he has so far been unable to get them into play-off and promotion contention.

Given that those two things will certainly be the aim for Leicester City should they go down, the board will be taking a leap of faith that, at their club, Martin would be able to deliver.

Leicester City linked manager backs Jamie Vardy to ‘score goals with me’ after Leeds visit

The latest Leicester City news as the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss has opened up on his ‘goal’ of managing in the Premier League amid links to City and Crystal Palace.

Leicester City linked manager Adi Hutter has revealed that his goal is to manage in England after enjoying success in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany.

The Austrian has been out of work since leaving Borussia Monchengladbach last summer. He has been linked with a move to the Premier League with City and Crystal Palace, both of whom currently have interim managers until the end of the season.

Hutter was first linked as a potential option for City following the exit of Brendan Rodgers. The club however opted to bring Dean Smith in on a contract until the end of the season as they turned to the former Aston Villa boss to save the club from relegation.

The Austrian revealed last month that he was ‘ working on’ a deal that would see him move to the Premier League. The manager has also been linked with a move to Crystal Palace, who have Roy Hodgson on an interim basis.

Hutter has again opened up on his ambitions to manage in England, having spent some time with a trip to take in some games. The manager was in attendance for City’s Premier League clash against Leeds United at Elland Road last week, where Jamie Vardy was back on the scoresheet.

He has also explained how his style would suit the English game.“The Premier League is the best in the world – so many fantastic players, the style of football, the emotion. I really like it all,” he told the Telegraph.

“My goal is to come to England, I have a lot of experience and I’m ready for it.”

“I like to play inspiring, attacking football. I like to work with hungry players who want success. At Frankfurt, I looked at Luka Jovic, Sebastien Haller, and Ante Rebic, and I said ‘I want to play with all three’. In Germany, they called them ‘the buffalo herd’.

“It was Haller and Rebic as the front two. Jovic always wanted to play number nine, but he’s a creative player so I put him behind them. Jovic scored 17 goals, Haller, who was injured at the end of the season, scored 15, and Rebic, who is one of the best players for pressing nine.”

“I like to think strikers score goals with me because of the style of football.”

It’s a style that could be music to the ears of Vardy. The City talisman had struggled for goals this season under Brendan Rodgers, but has now scored in each of his last two games and looks revitalised under Smith. He will be looking to score for a third game in a row when City take on Fulham on Monday afternoon.

Hutter is a name that may not be too familiar to City fans, but that’s something the manager is used to. “When I left Austria to coach in Switzerland, it was ‘who is this’,” he said.

“The same when I went to Germany and probably the same if I come to England. I hope so anyway because maybe it has been good luck.”
