Newcastle United look set to have Allan Saint-Maximin back in the squad to face Arsenal at St James’ Park this afternoon.

According to BBC Journalist, Daniel Wales, Allain Saint-Maximin has made the cut to be in Newcastle‘s match squad to face Arsenal today after training with the team this week.

Saint-Maximin has been missing for the last five Premier League games after picking up a hamstring injury. Despite showing on social media that he was comfortably running again a couple of weeks ago, Eddie Howe has resisted the temptation to rush him back into the squad.

Allan Saint-Maximin’s Newcastle future is still up in the air

The man described as ‘unplayable‘ by Jamie Redknapp has been the subject of a lot of speculation this season as to whether he’ll still be a Newcastle player next year.

Journalists and pundits have claimed that the time is up for Saint-Maximin and Newcastle will look to cash in on him in the summer freeing up £ 93k per week from the wage bill. However, Eddie Howe has often suggested that Maxi has a big part to play in Newcastle’s future.

It’s recently been reported that Howe now believes that it’s all starting to click for Saint-Maximin and he’s finally getting to grips with what Howe expects of him.

Maxi could do some damage off the bench against Arsenal

While it’s unlikely that Saint-Maximin will start today with it being his first game after a long layoff, we may get to see if what Howe is saying is true.

Maxi is always a good option to have on the bench to bring on late in the game. His ability to run with the ball and tie defenders up in knots is never more useful than at the latter stages of the game when the opposing defense is weary.

Hopefully, by the time Maxi comes off the bench today, the game will be out of sight for Newcastle and Maxi can just rub salt into their wound
