Liverpool is reportedly ‘interested’ in signing Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler at the end of the season as they look to bolster their homegrown numbers. The 34-year-old was signed by sporting director Jorg Schmadtke, who is now in advanced negotiations to head to Anfield himself.

Jurgen Klopp is hoping to shake up his ranks markedly over the summer following an underwhelming campaign that saw his side struggle to land a blow in the title race. The Merseyside outfit has managed to revive their chances of finishing in the Champions League over the past few weeks, though further progress is required

Several fringe stars will leave the Reds at the end of the season, with the majority of those players falling into the ‘homegrown’ category. James Milner, who is set to join Brighton, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are both out of contract when the campaign concludes, with Nat Phillips and Caoimhin Kelleher both potentially set to be sold too.

With Kelleher heavily linked with an exit from Anfield, having reportedly told the club that he no longer wants to play second fiddle to Alisson, Klopp is set to be in the market for a second-choice goalkeeper. The ex-Borussia Dortmund could be set to solve both of his imminent issues by signing Zieler, according to Bild.

The former Manchester United shot-stopper only has a year left on his contract with Hannover and there is a growing feeling that he could be lured to Liverpool. The Bundesliga 2 outfit will not be able to compete with the financial package that Zieler could be offered, and a transfer fee could certainly soften the blow.
