The latest Leicester City news as Dean Smith’s men are preparing to take on the Reds at the King Power Stadium on Monday night in a game that will be crucial in their hopes of staying up at the end of the season.
Pundit Paul Merson believes that Leicester City will be given a big boost in their survival hopes this weekend with a surprise win over Liverpool on Monday night.
City take on Jurgen Klopp’s side at the King Power Stadium in what will be the final Premier League game of the weekend. When kick-off comes around, City will know if they are able to climb out of the bottom three, depending on results for Nottingham Forest and Everton on Saturday.
Should Forest lose against Chelsea, or Everton not win against Man City, then three points would see City climb above their rivals. It’s a set of results that Merson says will give City a ‘great opportunity’ on Monday night.
“I think Everton and Nottingham Forest are going to lose this week and I don’t see Leeds beating Newcastle United either. As such, this is a great opportunity for Leicester City to move towards surviving relegation,” he told SportsKeeda .
Liverpool are currently on a six game winning run as they make a late run for Champions League football next season. But the pundit has not been overly impressed with their performances, something which he says may give City a ‘chance’, but he did have a warning for the club should they not take all three points.
He added: “Liverpool are playing for a Champions League berth but they are not really ripping it up despite getting several wins under their belt in recent weeks. They are not exactly destroying teams and I think, Leicester has a chance here.
“But the Foxes can’t defend like they have in recent weeks. There is no point in drawing this game. They have got to win this one.
“I’m going to go with Leicester. By the time this game kicks off on Monday night, Manchester United and Newcastle United could have already won their games. Leicester could be buzzing because the three teams around them could have lost. The pressure will be on Liverpool and Leicester has everything to play for.
“This could be a season-defining game for Leicester. If they don’t win it, I think they’re going to get relegated.”
