Exclusive: Tottenham has made a concrete move to sign a relegated star

Tottenham is hopeful a bid of up to £ 15 million could be enough to land Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs are pursuing the 21-year-old following his impressive breakthrough at the struggling Saints, whose relegation from the Premier League was confirmed during the weekend.

It is believed that Tottenham regards Bazunu as a strong candidate to take over the number one shirt next season from Hugo Lloris.

Football Insider revealed last week that Tottenham has been keeping close tabs on Bazunu and have been impressed by his development.

He fits the profile of a player that Spurs are looking to invest in this summer, with an emphasis expected to be on the rising star with the potential to develop under the new manager.

Southampton’s relegation from the top flight will likely lead to a fire sale of talent to the Premier League elite.

Tottenham is also keen on Bazunu’s outfield colleague James Ward-Prowse, who is expected to lead the exodus of talent from St Mary’s Stadium.

Lloris, 36, is expected to depart the club this summer despite having a year remaining on his contract.

The club captain has had a wretched campaign and has reportedly been offered a mega salary by a Saudi Arabian club as he weighs up his Tottenham future.

Bazunu, who joined the Saints from Man City for a reported initial fee of £ 12 million last summer, has made 32 Premier League appearances across 37 in all competitions this season – conceding 61 goals and keeping five clean sheets.

The 13-cap Republic of Ireland international earned a Premier League number-one spot after impressive loan spells away at Portsmouth and Rochdale.
