Report: Crystal Palace now closing in on manager with 130 Premier League wins

Crystal Palace are now closing in on the appointment of Roy Hodgson as a contract for the 2023/24 campaign nears.

The 75-year-old has done a tremendous job at Selhurst Park since taking over from Patrick Vieira in Crystal Palace‘s time of need, overseeing five wins from eight Premier League games to steer the Eagles clear of relegation.

Now – according to The Sun – Crystal Palace look set to keep Roy Hodgson.

What’s the story?

Well, the man with 130 Premier League wins to his name simply does not want to retire.

The Sun believe Hodgson is now close to signing a contract extension which will see him take charge of the 2023/24 season, with Steve Parish impressed by his efforts since returning to SE25 in March.

Hodgson is already the oldest Premier League boss in history, and he now looks set to increase that record.

Parish is also said to have taken note of how Eberechi Eze has improved drastically under the Croydon-born tactician, while The Sun add that Wilfried Zaha also enjoys a strong working relationship with the old England boss.

While the 57-year-old Chairman has considered other options – Arne Slot of Feyenoord being one – Crystal Palace’s recent run of form caused him to seriously consider keeping Hodgson, something which now looks set to happen.

Hodgson could keep Zaha at Crystal Palace

If The Sun’s claim that Hodgson and Zaha enjoy a strong working relationship is true, then it could prove decisive in the Ivory Coast international’s future.

Crystal Palace’s No.11 and talisman sees his contract expire within a matter of weeks, with the Guardian claiming that Parish has put a four-year extension worth £200,000-a-week on the table.

Zaha is currently considering his options with Arsenal said to be interested.

However, if Hodgson – who has made Zaha captain since replacing Vieira – now stays in south London, the 30-year-old may opt to join him in extending his deal given their solid relationship.

Only time will tell what happens, but keep an eye on Crystal Palace over the coming weeks – it is undoubtedly a huge summer for Parish with a number of key decisions needing to be made.
