Nottingham Forest will now have to battle Wolves for the signing of Lassana Coulibaly during the summer transfer window.

According to Salerno Notizie, the Reds are back in the mix to sign the central midfielder after almost landing him in January.

The 27-year-old has been with Salernitana since July 2021 and his performances in Serie A have caught the eye of potential suitors.

Now, Wolves are showing interest in the Malian star who has a contract with his current club until 2026.

Interestingly, Salernitana looks like they’d be willing to sanction a departure for Coulibaly with £7 million being touted as his valuation.

Coulibaly can play in a number of midfield roles and during 2022/23 he’s been deployed as a box-to-box midfielder more often than not.

The player who has 30 caps for his country and has filled in as a defensive midfielder on some occasions over the past season.

Forest will likely target midfielders in the summer. There’s an argument that Jack Colback, Remo Freuler, and Cheikhou Kouyate could all depart at the end of this season.

Coulibaly has spent time at Rangers during his career and Steven Gerrard raved about him in 2018.

The man who led the Gers to a Scottish Premiership title called the player a ‘machine’ following a win in Europe over Maribor.

Forest battle Wolves for Coulibaly signing

Coulibaly is certainly an aggressive performer. During the current campaign, he’s been cautioned 11 times and that combative style is part of his game.

Fighting Wolves for his signature won’t be easy. Julen Lopetegui has got them firing and they will also fancy their chances.

Forest will have to finish their survival mission before targeting any new signings.

If they do get over the line, however, it seems certain that another rebuild will be on the cards, with many of last summer’s signings not really working out.

Coulibaly looks like an ideal addition and given his valuation this one looks like a bit of a no-brainer.
