Crystal Palace are now keen to sign Jefferson Lerma on a free transfer – a player who is also wanted by West Ham.

It was Fabrizio Romano who claimed that the south Londoners are interested in the Colombia international, and will push for his signature in the next few days.

The reliable Italian journalist’s claim comes after TEAMtalk revealed that West Ham also want Jefferson Lerma.

What’s the story?

Well, the South American’s contract at Bournemouth expires on June 30th.

It doesn’t seem as if Lerma will sign fresh terms at the Vitality Stadium, which has alerted Crystal Palace and West Ham to his situation.

The Bournemouth No.8 – who cost the Cherries £25m when they signed him from Levante in August 2018 – has enjoyed an impressive campaign on the south coast.

Lerma has scored five goals in 35 Premier League appearances this term, playing a key role in helping Bournemouth avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

As far as free transfers go, the 28-year-old’s availability represents a fantastic option in the market this summer.

Crystal Palace move may be awkward for West Ham target Lerma

If Crystal Palace do end up winning the race to sign Lerma, they may need to set up a conversation with Joachim Andersen.

The Denmark international broke Lerma’s nose on Saturday as Crystal Palace recorded a 2-0 win over Bournemouth at Selhurst Park, after a punch occurred as both players jostled in the box before a corner was taken.

Speaking on Match of the Day on Saturday night, Gary Lineker couldn’t believe that VAR didn’t punish the Dane.

Unsurprisingly, the Cerrito-born midfielder was not happy, and a clear-the-air meeting may be required between Andersen and him if he is going to become his teammate.

Be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as Romano adds that lots of clubs are monitoring Lerma’s situation.
