Nottingham Forest will sign Dean Henderson from Manchester United this summer, according to reports. The 26-year-old spent 2022/23 on loan from the Red Devils and his future looks bleak at Old Trafford.
Henderson is open to the idea of leaving United. That much has been evident since last summer when he took a swipe at his parent club shortly after signing loan terms at the City Ground.
It now seems as though Henderson will sign for Forest on a permanent basis. The Daily Mail believes that once the Red Devils sign off on a new contract for David de Gea, the Reds will get their man.
Henderson would be a magnificent signing for the East Midlands-based outfit. In the 20 games he played, he kept six clean sheets and at that time it was the most of any goalkeeper outside of the top six.
The talented player would be a really useful signing for the Reds. Given that he’s only 26, he could become the club’s number-one goalkeeper for many more years and his best is yet to come.
Henderson recently had surgery on a thigh injury that he sustained during a 2-0 win over Leicester in January. Ultimately, he is now on the mend though and he’s expected to be fit for pre-season.
Forest will sign Henderson this summer
The goalkeeper has been praised throughout his career. Steve Cooper is a huge fan, whilst Sheffield United star Sander Berge called him ‘insane’ when they played together at Bramall Lane.
Forest would be completing a real coup with this deal. Other clubs have shown interest in the past; with Tottenham reportedly eyeing the England man as a goalkeeping option this summer.
Henderson has been a revelation at Forest but perhaps not just for his work on the pitch. Although he’s been injured since January, he’s often been found supporting his teammates from the stands.
It’s not clear at this stage just how much Forest will pay to secure the services of Henderson. However much he costs, however, will prove to be money well spent in the summer.
The goalkeeper does earn £ 110,000 a week at Old Trafford. It’s not, however, anticipated that the player’s wage demands will cause the Reds any problems in completing a deal.
