Rangers want to sign Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, but the £30m asking price means the deal is unlikely

Rangers want to sign Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer, but his £30m asking price means a deal is not even on the cards.

Viktor Gyokeres: Premier League clubs maintain interest in Coventry striker

The Swede his 21 goals as he helped the sky blues reach the playoff final, where he got an assist but was on the losing side as Luton Town beat them on penalties.

However his form has made a move away a real possibility, but while Beale is said to be a huge “admirer” of the 25-year-old, the asking price means he is far more likely to head to the English Premier League rather than Scotland according to the Sunday Mirror, as relayed by the Daily Record (4 June).

Move on

This is a total non-starter and the club shouldn’t even bother wasting any time trying to get it off the ground in all honesty.

Our most expensive deal ever was for a little over £12m and that was all the way back in the year 2000. In fact, we’ve only signed two players for £4.5m or more since 1998 and they were Barry Ferguson and Ryan Kent.

That just isn’t the market that we can shop in, and it’s been well established that we don’t have the kind of financial muscle to take the best players from south of the border.

It’s a pipe dream at best and with so many positions and priorities this summer, we cannot afford to be chasing ludicrous deals and wasting time on things that just simply aren’t going to happen.

It’s nice to be adventurous and optimistic, but let’s not be silly. Gyokeres won’t be coming to Ibrox this summer and everyone and their cat knows it.

In other Rangers news, a major transfer could collapse after the club lost contact with the selling club following boardroom changes.
