The Italian has impressed Leicester officials during interviews and they hope to name him as their new manager by the end of the week.

The Foxes are in the hunt for a new manager after sacking Brendan Rodgers following a poor run of results earlier this season.

The 43-year-old previously rejected an offer to be the Southampton manager in order to remain at the Etihad, as revealed by Football Insider (22 May).

The Italian has also been linked with the vacant manager position at Celtic Park after their manager Ange Postecoglou left to take over at Tottenham but the Hoops are now closing in on the appointment of former Leicester boss Rodgers.

Maresca, currently assistant to Pep Guardiola at treble-winning side Man City, has had a successful career so far working as a second in command at West Ham and Sevilla as well as the Manchester club.

Guardiola’s assistant tried his hand at a managerial job and left the Sky Blues in 2021 to take over at Parma where he was sacked after just six months in charge.

Maresca’s Parma side won just four out of 14 games whilst he was in charge and he was sacked in November 2021.

Maresca took a brief break from football before he returned to the Etihad last summer to become Guardiola’s assistant boss.

He has enjoyed a hugely successful first season back in Manchester, helping the club secure the treble but looks set to depart for newly relegated Leicester.

In other news, Man City is ready to accept a £70m offer for a star player.
