GREAT NEWS: Coventry City 20-year-old young class star has agreed a new two-year-deal

NEWS: Marco Rus signs new Sky Blues deal

The midfielder commits to his future…

We are delighted to announce that midfielder Marco Rus has agreed a new deal with Coventry City Football Club.

The 20-year-old has agreed a new two-year deal, which will see him extend his stay at the Club until the summer of 2025.

Last season, Marco was an influential member of the Under-21s group who made it to the Birmingham Senior Cup final, wearing the captain’s armband on multiple occasions.

He also spent time away from City, enjoying loan spells with Hereford and Chorley, gaining some valuable minutes in the National League North.

Rus will link back up with his teammates later this month when they return for pre-season ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Sources: Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres close to completing Sporting Lisbon transfer

Viktor Gyokeres of Coventry City applauds the fans after the Sky Bet Championship match at the Coventry Building Society Arena, Coventry

Sporting Lisbon is close to agreeing terms with Coventry City for lethal frontman, Viktor Gyokeres, and TEAMtalk has learned there is confidence a deal will be done despite a gap in valuations.

Gyokeres, 25, enjoyed a second successive superb campaign with Coventry City, finishing second in the race for the Championship golden boot.

The Sweden international notched 21 goals to go four better than his 17-goal tally in the 2021/22 campaign. Gyokeres was a major factor in helping Coventry finish inside the play-off places.

An agonizing penalty shoot-out defeat to Luton Town in the final ended Coventry’s promotion hopes. Furthermore, TEAMtalk understands more bad news is on the horizon in the form of a looming Gyokeres exit.

We’ve been told Gyokeres is closing in on a move to Portuguese powerhouse, Sporting Lisbon.

Gyokeres – who has attracted interest from the likes of Brentford, Crystal Palace, and Everton – is valued at around £25m by Coventry.

However, TEAMtalk understands that Gyokeres prefers a move to Portugal with Sporting and a deal can be made despite a difference in each club’s respective valuations of the striker.

As it stands, we have learned Sporting has come up with a package worth close to £20m.

That is still short of Coventry’s £25m asking price, but there is confidence within the player’s camp that a deal will be agreed when all is said and done.
