According to reports, the ‘extraordinary’ defender has agreed to a five-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur may now be closing in on signing Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven after agreeing personal terms.

Micky van de Ven has taken a big step closer to becoming a Tottenham Hotspur player by agreeing on a five-year deal with the club.

That is according to Voetbal International reporter Mike Verweij over in Van de Ven’s native Netherlands.

Verweij claims that Van de Ven has now agreed on a five-year deal with Tottenham as a move seemingly draws closer.

Personal terms are in place but Tottenham must now attempt to thrash out a deal with Wolfsburg.

A fee of around £26million has been mentioned but much will depend on the payment structure involved.

That’s a strong profit on the £ 3 million Wolfsburg paid to sign Van de Ven from Volendam back in 2021.

Tottenham has already snapped up Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison whilst Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro have become permanent additions.

Add in the imminent signing of winger Manor Solomon and Van de Ven could add to a productive start to the summer window

Why is Tottenham signing Micky van de Ven?

Tottenham needed to sign another center-back this summer.

Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga may be heading for the exit whilst question marks surround Eric Dier.

The key factor was adding a left-footed defender with Clement Lenglet’s loan from Barcelona coming to an end.

Van de Ven fits that bill and has even played as a left-back before, showing his versatility at the back.

Moving for Lenglet permanently just never felt inspiring; the Frenchman didn’t pull up any trees on loan at Spurs last season.

Why sign Lenglet permanently when you have already witnessed him being average at best?

Tottenham is instead pushing to land top young talent in Van de Ven, who has so much potential at just 22.

A huge presence at 6ft 4in tall, Van de Ven has outstanding pace and could become a fixture of the Spur’s defense for years to come.

Van de Ven has been earning huge praise in Germany with Wolfsburg boss Niko Kovac branding him ‘extraordinary’.

Comfort on the ball and pace to play in a high line are vital attributes under new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou.

Van de Ven ticks those boxes and whilst he has some developing to do, Tottenham is banking on him improving over the coming years.
