Six Manchester City starlets Leicester City could sign under Enzo Maresca

Maresca’s standing at Manchester City could help Leicester’s cause in the transfer window if they wanted to give some of their young prospects a shot at first-team football in the Championship

New Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has already admitted he could look to sign some of Manchester City’s best talents on loan.

With a coach that the players know and Man City trusts, great training facilities at Seagrave, and with the club expected to fight for promotion, Leicester could be the perfect place for Man City’s young prospects as they get used to the senior game.

Indeed, former Man City assistant boss Maresca has suggested he will return to the Etihad to try to recruit. “One or two of them would do us nicely!” he told the Telegraph. “City really do have a lot of young players that I know very well having worked with them at under-23 level and coached there.

“(They have) top-quality players. But it wouldn’t be right to mention any names just at the moment because the lads will be away on holiday and maybe thinking about what’s next for them.”

Here are six players City could look at…

Leicester are said to be exploring a deal for Doyle, who shone on loan at Coventry City in the Championship last season. He made 44 appearances as the Sky Blues reached the play-off final.

The 19-year-old could now be set for a second crack at promotion to the Premier League if Leicester and Maresca get their way. The center-back is adept at playing out and excels with a more experienced head by his side.

Bringing in Palmer may be a little fanciful for a Championship club as the 21-year-old has just played 25 games for the treble winners. But with suggestions he has not kicked on as quickly as the club hoped, he looks set to be loaned out this summer.

He would be more likely to go to a top-flight club in England or Germany, but if City could convince Man City to send him to the Championship, they would be getting a skillful attacker who can play in a number 10 role or out wide, and one who is a physical presence too. For Maresca’s under-23s in 20-21, Palmer had 19 goal contributions in 16 games.

The city is going to need wingers this summer. Tete and Ayoze Perez have gone, and Harvey Barnes is heading for the exit too. That would leave just Marc Albrighton in the squad.

In that case, Borges looks like an enticing prospect. The Portuguese teenager is a goalscoring machine, netting 29 times in 33 games across the different youth competitions this season. He’s speedy, direct, and always looking to penetrate the back line. He could be a great option on the left flank.

There is talk he could leave permanently this summer, with only one year remaining on his contract. That would mean City have to stump up the cash for him, with an £11m price tag mooted.
