Everton agrees £ 8 million transfer to sell Ellis Simms – Fabrizio Romano

Everton have agreed a deal with Coventry City for Ellis Simms to leave the club, with a medical scheduled for tomorrow, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano shared that a deal has been agreed for an £ 8 million transfer fee, while Coventry is still in negotiations to sell Viktor Gyokeres who it seems Simms will be replacing when both deals are completed.

Simms had previously been linked to moves to Ipswich Town, who reportedly made a £ 4 million bid for him which was rejected by Everton [Football Insider, 27 June], while reports had also linked him to a move to Swansea City as the Toffees retain an interest in their striker Joel Piroe.

It’s the right time for both parties to move on

Simms came through the academy at Everton, so a permanent move away at the age of 22 is bound to be an emotional decision for the striker, but it feels like time to move on as he will want to reignite his career with a move to the Championship.

The striker was on course to better his best-ever season in terms of goalscoring last time out before Everton cut his loan deal with Sunderland short. The forward had scored seven goals in his six months at the Stadium of Light, with his previous best season tally set at eight with Hull City in 2020/21.

If Simms is set to replace Gyokeres as Coventry’s main striker option, he will have a job on his hands to match the Swedish forward’s tally of 21 league goals last year, but the club believes he is the one for the job.

This one is a move that suits all parties, with Everton receiving £ 8 million that can be reinvested into their squad, Simms being given an opportunity to prove his worth, and Coventry moving early for a Gyokeres replacement.

In other Everton news, a winner has been named in Everton’s race to sign a new midfielder.
