Signing Tottenham player is ‘viable’ – ‘Optimal’ relations with club, could help incoming Spurs deal

Barcelona consider a move for Tottenham flop Giovani Lo Celso ‘viable’ as they look to add a creative midfielder to Xavi’s squad.

That’s according to AS, who say the ‘optimal relations’ between the two clubs could help facilitate a deal for the Argentine.

The newspaper explains that Xavi had dreamed of having Lionel Messi back in his team, playing the role of the creator and filling what he considers to be a hole in his midfield

That never happened as he went to America and they’re now looking at options, with c and Lo Celso the potential candidates.

Signing the Portuguese midfielder from Manchester City would be difficult given the sums that would likely be involved but ‘it is possible’ to get Lo Celso from Tottenham as he has a much lower market price. Thus, any potential move is ‘viable’.

Relations between the two clubs are ‘optimal’ and that could facilitate a deal, with Xavi determined to add a creator to his midfield and Lo Celso fitting the profile.

Whether any transfer can be done quickly remains to be seen but the parts are there if Barcelona move, with Tottenham unlikely to be resistant to getting rid of a player who simply hasn’t worked out.

According to Ekstra Bladet, Tottenham are battling Wolves for Victor Nelsson, with the Galatasaray star preferring to join the North London club.

Over the last few weeks, we have relayed several reports talking up the chances of Spurs swooping for Nelsson, with all the updates coming from Turkish outlets (Hurriyet).

Tottenham and Wolves leading race for Nelsson

The publication states that as things stand, Spurs and Wovles are leading the race for the 24-year-old’s signature.

Nelsson is said to prefer a move to the Lilywhites but Galatasaray are thought to be demanding that the player’s €25m (£21.3m) release clause be met.

The report adds that Spurs are reluctant to meet the clause and we could thus be set for ‘a prolonged poker game’ over the defender’s future.

Spurs Web Opinion

Ekstra Bladet are certainly a more reliable source than some of the Turkish sources who have reported on Tottenham’s interest in Nelsson. However, it is curious that no British outlet has suggested that the Dane is near the top of Spurs’ wishlist.

I suspect that the North London club view the 24-year-old as a backup option in case deals for some of their priority centre-back targets fail to materialise.
