Tottenham tipped to sign Bundesliga duo as Postecoglou eyes game-changing £64m double swoop

Tottenham are reportedly closing in on a double deal for two Bundesliga centre-backs: Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.

Ange Postecoglou is looking to revamp Spurs’ defence as the London club aim to bounce back from a disappointing 2022/23 campaign.

This is no surprise, given Tottenham conceded 63 goals in the Premier League last season – the sixth-worst defensive record in the entire division.

As a result, Postecoglou is willing to part ways with four Tottenham defenders this summer. They are allegedly Ben Davies, Japhet Tanganga, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez.

Therefore, Tottenham will need to bring in replacements for them. They have been linked with moves for Chelsea’s Levi Colwill and Juventus’ Gleison Bremer. But it seems their priority is Van de Ven and Tapsoba.

According to journalist Paul Brown, there is a good chance that Spurs can secure the signatures of the highly-rated Bundesliga pair.

Tottenham are thought to have agreed personal terms with Van de Ven but are currently £5m off with their valuation of the 22-year-old.

Wolfsburg want a £30m fee for the centre-back, but Daniel Levy has only offered of £25m so far.

That has led to speculation that Postecoglou could move on to other targets, with Tapsoba been considered after an impressive campaign in Germany.

Tapsoba actually has a higher value than Van de Ven at €40m (£34m), but Brown thinks that both players could end up in north London.

That means Levy may need to fork out £64m for the duo. But if Postecoglou can offload some of the defenders currently on the club’s books, then it could happen.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Brown said: “Spurs seem a little further down the line with Van de Ven. They’ve met his people.

“I understand his personal terms won’t be a problem. It’s purely about agreeing on a fee with his club. That one seems more likely to happen at the moment than Tapsoba.

“But both of them are on Spurs’ list, and it does look like they might try to sign two centre-backs this summer. So, they may sign them both.”

Last season, Van de Ven made 33 Bundesliga appearances for Wolfsburg. In the process, he helped his team to 11 clean sheets and scored one goal.

Interestingly, the Dutchman is one of the quickest players in the Bundesliga, something which Postecoglou is no doubt impressed with.

Tapsoba, on the other hand, made 33 league appearances for Leverkusen, keeping seven clean sheets and scoring two goals.

Like Van de Ven, the 24-year-old is considered to be one of the best defenders in Germany. So it will be interesting to see if Tottenham can sign both players this summer.
