Tottenham Set to miss out on Championship’s Young Player of the Year

Tottenham has shown tepid interest in Bristol City’s Alex Scott, but the Championship’s Young Player of the Year is expected to sign for another team, probably Wolves.

Bristol City slapped a £25 million fee on their ace up-and-coming midfielder in January, a price tag that deterred most of his potential suitors.

Wolves submitted an official £20 million bid plus add-ons yesterday, which Bristol City rejected, who remains steadfast on £25 million.

West Ham and Bournemouth are still in the mix, but Wolves are the clear frontrunner. According to The Telegraph’s John Percy, Wolves are expected to make a follow-up bid, which should come close to the Championship side’s initial asking price.

The prospect of Spurs hunkering down, trying to pip the other would-be suitors is highly unlikely.

West Ham and Bournemouth are still in with a fighting chance. If either team is committed to signing Scott, now’s the time to act. They still can hijack the deal, especially if either side matches Bristol City’s £25 million asking price.

Don’t expect Tottenham to rival Wolves’ bid.

While Scott wouldn’t have a chance at cracking Spurs’ first 11 in the short term, the Englishman has uncapped potential. Dubbed the Guernsey Grealish, the central midfielder played in 42 of Bristol City’s 46 matches last season.

Scoring one goal and adding five assists, his offensive output was nothing to write home about. However, most who’ve watched Scott believe he is the real deal, a notion supported by his Championship Young Player of the Year award last season.

But he’ll invariably go to one of the three sides above, where he has a decent chance of cracking the starting 11 from the onset of his arrival.

Hopefully, he doesn’t fulfill his lofty potential. If he does, Spurs will be kicking themselves over another missed opportunity.
