Tottenham in advanced talks with La Liga giants over deal for €42 million defender

Davinson Sanchez closing in on joining Real Betis

Real Betis are closing in on the signatures of the 27-year-old Tottenham Hotspur center-back Davinson Sanchez.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, La Liga giants Real Betis are keen on having Davinson Sanchez in their ranks ahead of next season. The 27-year-old defender’s future has been uncertain for a while now, and it looks like he is all set to make the move to Spain.

Sanchez arrived at Tottenham Hotspur back in the summer of 2017 from Ajax in what was a big-money move. Spurs paid a fee of €42 million to acquire the services of Colombian international.

He went from strength to strength during his time at the club and has so far featured in 205 matches for the London club. The 27-year-old has done a decent job over the years. But of late, he hasn’t been at his best, and Sanchez never really managed to reach the heights that were expected from him.

Almost six years after making the move to the London club, the Colombian international is all set to part ways with Spurs. His contract ends in the summer of 2024. And, with just 12 months left on his deal, offloading him does make sense rather than losing out on him for free next summer. Meanwhile, Spurs are already looking for defensive reinforcement amid links with Gleison Bremer.

While there has been a lot of interest from clubs across Europe, Real Betis are leading the race for his signatures. The Spanish club are keen on having him in their ranks as they look to bolster their squad. Their manager Manuel Pellegrini believes the 27-year-old still has a lot to offer and he can help them take the next step.

Betis are very close to striking a deal with Tottenham. The talks are in advanced stages, and a final decision is expected within a week’s time. Betis are ready to offer the Colombian international a contract worth €2 million per season.

Spurs are likely to receive a fee of around €7 million from the sale, a figure that does not really make people at the club happy given that they had spent €42 million on him. But, with his contract running out, they do not really have many options to play with.
