Nottingham Forest miss out on defender who will now join Brighton

Nottingham Forest are going to miss out on the signing of Igor Julio, with the defender now set to sign for Brighton. The Reds were thought to be interested, with Fulham also wanting to land the player.

The centre-back is going to cost the Seagulls £15 million. He’s checking in from Fiorentina where he helped the club reach the final of the UEFA Conference League during 2022/23.

Villarreal were also thought to be in the mix to sign him too. Forest were first linked with the defender in January but they opted to sign other options instead.

Igor has been with Fiorentina for several years. He’s made 110 appearances for the Serie A club but is now set for Brighton and a crack at the Premier League.

The Daily Mail has now claimed that Forest were very keen. Steve Cooper is keen to sign another central defender and that search has been intensified after Moussa Niakhate dislocated his elbow.

Forest might have felt that their Brazilian contingent would be enough to get them over the line with this deal. Gustavo Scarpa, Felipe and Danilo are all in place at Trentside.

Brighton’s transfer model is an admirable one. It’s been claimed in recent weeks that the Reds are hoping to use them as an inspiration to establish themselves as a Premier League club.

Forest to miss out on Igor signing

This transfer might have proved a decent one for the Reds. Igor has lots of experience and at £15 million he might have represented a bit of a steal.

Forest’s loss is Brighton’s gain and the Reds will have to hope they can land another defensive target. Other players will be on the radar and Igor will get to sample Europa League football at the AMEX Stadium.

The Reds do have a number of central defenders to choose from. Joe Worrall, Felipe, Willy Boly and Scott McKenna are the current options in the first-team squad.

Igor is now one that looks to have got away from Forest. The club will now move forward in their search and hope to land a defensive player before the season starts.
