“Medical soon”: Leeds United Gazump PL club with a higher offer to sign 32-y/o – Sky Sports

Leeds United are closing in on the signing of a new goalkeeper this week as they near an agreement to bring in Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow.

The Whites have been slow off the mark this summer when it’s come to new signings, only making one for the senior team thus far in the shape of Ethan Ampadu.

A goalkeeper is sure to be on the radar next for Leeds, and that deal looks to be edging a lot closer today.

Karl Darlow to Leeds?

Tuesday afternoon saw a big update on Leeds’ hunt for a new goalkeeper, with reports from the Yorkshire Evening Post that the club are in advanced talks with Newcastle over the signing of Karl Darlow.

It was assumed that the 32-year-old would be on his way to Bournemouth after reports that he would be granted permission to fly back to the UK from their pre-season tour, in order to pursue a move to the South Coast club.

However, Leeds looks to have pipped the Cherries to Darlow, with Andoni Iraola’s side closing in on Inter Milan’s Ionut Radu.

What’s the latest?

Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie has now shared that Leeds is indeed close to agreeing to sign Darlow, having made a higher offer to the Magpies than Bournemouth did.

The goalkeeper is expected to fly back to the UK and complete a medical at Thorp Arch soon, once an agreement is struck:

Darlow coming in is a sensible piece of business, as much as the reaction from fans is that of it being underwhelming.

Leeds needs to build a squad that boasts some of the best players in a number of positions, and Darlow is one of the better in the league in his position.

While the fee still remains a mystery, it is a concern that we’ve outbid a Premier League club for him, suggesting it’s fairly high.
