The latest Nottingham Forest transfer news from Nottinghamshire Live as the Reds are linked with Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Wilmar Barrios

Nottingham Forest have reportedly made a bid for Colombia midfielder Wilmar Barrios.

The 29-year-old has been with top Russian side Zenit St Petersburg 2019 as he anchors their midfield. Now transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Forest have bid for Barrios, but they are some way short of Zenit’s interview.

He tweeted: “Nottingham Forest submitted formal proposal to sign Colombian midfielder Wilmar Barrios. Understand bid is around €4m fee but Zenit St Petersburg rejected as they want way more to let Barrios leave, around €15m.”

Barrios has won 51 caps for Colombia and featured in the 2018 World Cup. Before joining Zenit he played for Boca Juniors and was reportedly close to joining Tottenham for £25m.

Tottenham are not interested in January move for Wilmar Barrios

Forest have made signing a defensive midfielder a top priority this summer with PSV’s Ibrahim Sangare their leading target. They have also been linked with Leeds’ Tyler Adams and Leicester’s Wilfred Ndidi. Barrios would represent a cheaper alternative to compete with Ryan Yates, Orel Mangala and Danilo.

Forest have alternatives in Remo Freuler, Cheikou Kouyate and Lewis O’Brien, however all three have been linked with moves

The latest Nottingham Forest transfer news from Nottinghamshire Live as the Reds look to land on of the targets

Nottingham Forest are reportedly on the brink of signing Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Forest are on the lookout for at least one goalkeeper this summer, after loanees Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas returned to their parent clubs. Forest have been keen to make Henderson’s loan move from Man United permanent this summer, but a deal is yet to be reached, however, he remains a target and is keen to come back to Nottingham. In a surprise twist, former Leicester City keeper Kasper Schmeichel has also been linked.

The Reds have turned their attention to Turner, with talks over a deal with Arsenal seemingly progressing. Giving an update on Twitter, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has said Forest are close to landing the keeper as Arsenal move for Brentford’s David Raya.

He wrote: “Nottingham Forest are closing in on Matt Turner deal with Arsenal, here we go soon.

“Verbal agreement in place, personal terms also agreed — clubs finalising the details and then it will be sealed. Arsenal now closer to David Raya, could be done in 24/48h.”

Raya’s arrival at the Emirates Stadium would mean that Turner is likely to be free to leave the club and sign for Forest.

The 29-year-old has been at Arsenal since signing from MLS side New England Revolution last summer. He made a total of seven appearances for Arsenal last season, including playing five games in the Europa League, where he kept three clean sheets.

The goalkeeper is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League. In fact, if a deal is done in time, his debut in the league could come against Arsenal on the opening day of the season when Forest travel to the Emirates Stadium.
