Ipswich Town have completed the signing of a world-class player who is currently undergoing medicals.

Sources: Bakinson undergoes Ipswich Town medical as Blackpool and Hull City blocked

Ipswich Town has beaten Blackpool and Hull City to the signing of Bristol City midfielder Tyreeq Bakinson and he has started a medical, Football Insider understands.

The Championship clubs made moves to beat the Tractor Boys to the capture of the 23-year-old.

But a recruitment source has told Football Insider that City blocked their moves as they did not want Bakinson to join a second-tier rival.

He is now undergoing an Ipswich medical and is expected to complete a move in the next 24 hours.

As revealed by Football Insider earlier today (Thursday, 20 January), Bristol City has given Bakinson the green light to leave in order to free up space for new signings at Ashton Gate.

The midfielder has agreed to move in search of regular first-team football.

He has fallen down the pecking order in recent weeks after making a run of starts earlier in the campaign.

Bakinson has started 10 times in 13 Championship appearances this term.

He is now on the verge of joining an Ipswich Town side sitting 11th in the League One table.

Manager Kieran McKenna has been in the market for midfield reinforcements since taking charge in December 2021.

That is despite the Tractor Boys signing no fewer than four central midfielders last summer.

Bakinson will join the likes of Rekeem Harper, Tom Carroll, Samy Morsy, and Lee Evans at Portman Road.

The Bristol City star was also wanted by Championship rivals Blackpool and Hull this month.

However, the Robins did not want to strengthen any of their Championship rivals and as such rebuffed their approaches.
