Keane signs five-year deal to become club’s sixth summer signing

Everton have completed the signing of Burnley’s Michael Keane for an initial fee of £25m plus another £6m in potential add-ons.

The defender became Ronald Koeman’s sixth summer signingon Monday night after the Spanish Under 21 striker Sandro Ramírez had joined from Málaga for €6m (£5.3m) earlier in the day.

The two arrivals takes Everton’s spending this summer past the £85m mark.

Keane, who left Manchester United in January 2015, has signed a five-year deal with Everton.

The 24-year-old has played twice for England and said that the opportunity to play for Ronald Koeman had played a big part in his decision to join the Merseyside club.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be at Everton, a fantastic football club with passionate fans and a great tradition and I can’t wait to come into training tomorrow to meet all the lads,” Keane said. “First and foremost, the manager was a big factor in me coming to the club.

He played in my position when he was a world-class player for a great Barcelona side and a great Dutch side and the style of football he likes to play will suit me, I believe.

“I watched a lot of Everton last season and I believe I really suit how the team likes to play. I feel like this is a great place to come and continue my development as a player.

He’s convinced me that he can still improve me in certain areas of my game. I’m only 24 which, for a centre-half in the Premier League, is relatively young.

I’ve still got a long way to go and I know this and hopefully under his guidance I’ll keep improving.

“You always want to play for a manager who believes in you.

I wanted to come somewhere I was wanted by the staff, players and fans as well. I feel like Everton is the perfect match.”

Sandro, meanwhile, who played for Barcelona before joining Málaga last year, was on international duty at the European Under-21 Championship in Poland and scored in Spain’s 3-1 win against Portugal last week.

The 21-year-old had also been linked heavily with Atlético Madrid but their hopes were scuppered by a transfer ban. He has signed a four-year contract.

Sandro scored 16 goals in 31 games for Málaga last season. “Everton have made some big signings and we’re hoping we can put in a great season and hopefully then we can achieve that aim of getting in the Champions League,” he said. “It will be a big season for us.

“I was lucky enough to play with some of the best players in the world and managed to win the odd trophy but the important thing now is that I’m very happy to be signing for Everton.”

Sandro won La Liga with Barcelona in 2014-15 and 2015-16, making seven league appearance in the first season and 10 during the following campaign.

“I’m bringing a lot of youthful enthusiasm and a real desire to improve and work hard,” he said. “One of the things I’ve always had is a good work ethic and a real desire and strength of character to do well.

“My key strength is goalscoring. It’s always good to bring goals to a team and that’s what I’m hoping to do. My game is making runs off the ball, trying to find space, putting in a lot of effort and running hard. I think that’s an advantage in the Premier League.”

Everton have also signed the goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for an initial £25m, the midfielder Davy Klaassen for £23.7m, the forward Henry Onyekuru for £7m as well as Nathangelo Markelo for an undisclosed fee.
