Rangers want to sign Leicester City defender Harry Souttar as loan development emerges

Rangers are looking to sign Leicester City defender Harry Souttar on loan, according to Geoff Peters.

The talkSPORT journalist tweeted on 9 August that the Australian international is yet to feature for the Foxes in the opening two games of the season and wasn’t named in the squad for Wednesday night’s (9 August) match against Burton Albion.

He said there are also other clubs monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation alongside the Gers, who signed his brother John Souttar from Hearts last year.

Presence

It’s been widely noted that Rangers are short on options at the back and have been looking to bring another centre-back in this summer.

Following Leon King’s injury, which is set to keep him out of action for a “significant period of time”, the Gers drafted in Leon Balogun, but Michael Beale still wants to sign another central defender

Souttar, who was born in Scotland but decided to represent Australia, came through the ranks at Dundee United before quickly heading to Stoke City in 2016.

He impressed in his 70 games at the Bet365 Stadium and earned a £15million move in January to Leicester, where he made 12 appearances last season.

The centre-back would add some quality and youthfulness to the Gers’ defensive options and, standing at 6’6″ tall, he would certainly add a bit of presence to the side.
