Sources: New Wolves three-man signing plan revealed

Wolves are only able to move for free transfers and loans this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Gary O’Neil has recently been appointed as Julen Lopetegui’s successor – and a well-placed source has told Football Insider that the former Bournemouth manager will have to “wheel and deal” to improve his squad in the final weeks of the window.

O’Neil is well aware of the restrictions in place – which are no different to the situation which saw Lopetegui walk away from the club just days before their season-opener against Man United on Monday (14 August)

The main priorities for Wolves in the market are a new striker, winger and central midfielder.

However, it is believed any deals will be hard to pull off given the financial restrictions in place at Molineux.

Wolves have sold the likes of Ruben Neves, Nathan Collins and Raul Jimenez this summer – but have only added free transfer signing Matt Doherty to last season’s squad.

 

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (2 August) that Wolves were among the sides chasing a deal for Southampton striker Che Adams amid competition from Everton and Bournemouth.

However, it now appears a deal is unlikely with the Saints not willing to loan the Scotland international out for the season.

Adams has less than 12 months to run on his contract at St Mary’s Stadium.

Wolves looked in danger of relegation in the first half of last season before Lopetegui arrived to steady the ship in November.

They became only the fourth side in the Premier League era to survive relegation when bottom of the table on Christmas Day.

Centre-back Max Kilman has recently been appointed the new captain of the side following Neves’ departure to Saudi Arabia.
