‘medical in few hours: Tottenham new signing on his way to airport for his medical

ROMANO CLAIMS ‘PHENOMENON’ WAS TOLD TO REJECT TOTTENHAM

Tottenham Hotspur managed to sign Argentinian striker Alejo Veliz but he was urged to reject the move to North London.

Alejo Veliz was urged not to travel to sign for Tottenham Hotspur with other clubs trying to hijack his move.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking about Veliz on the Here We Go Podcast.

Romano claims that Veliz was heading to the airport in order to fly over to London and secure his move to Tottenham earlier this month.

The transfer insider claims that Veliz’s agent received calls from ‘important European clubs’ during that trip to the airport.

Those clubs were urging Veliz not to travel to London and sign for Tottenham, suggesting that they would be making moves for him soon enough.

“He will need some time, Alejo Veliz, but Tottenham feel they have signed a very important player,” said Romano. “When this guy was going to the airport to sign for Tottenham, some clubs – important European clubs – started to call his agent and said ‘don’t sign, don’t travel because want to wait until the end, we want to try until the end’, so it was not only Tottenham on this guy who joined from Rosario Central,” he added.

Veliz and stuck with the plan and chose to join Tottenham though and Spurs seem to be delighted.

Tottenham struck a £13million deal to sign Veliz from Argentinian side Rosario Central, seemingly viewing him as a real star for the future.

The 19-year-old hit 19 goals in 62 games for Rosario Central, showing promise as a target man with real aerial ability.

It’s unclear just how much he will play this season but Alejo is certainly an exciting player for the coming years at Tottenham.

Who is Tottenham summer signing Alejo Veliz?

Veliz hails from Gödeken just outside of Rosario in Argentina, so it’s no surprise that he ended up in the Rosario Central ranks.

The burly striker has emerged into the Rosario first team, attracting major interest before his move to Tottenham.

Veliz has also picked up nine caps for Argentina’s Under-20 side, scoring three times in the process.

There aren’t too many success stories in that regard and Veliz must now show more than the likes of Mauro Boselli, Guido Carrillo and Denis Stracqualursi – other physical Argentinian strikers who struggled in the Premier League.

The hopes are high for Veliz, who has been hailed as a ‘phenomenon’ by former Argentina star Daniel Bertoni.

Spurs will hope to see that come through in North London and make this transfer feel like a major win for years to come.
