Former Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw has signed a deal to join Whites’ Championship rivals Norwich City. Forshaw was released by Leeds at the end of last season after spending five-and-a-half seasons in West Yorkshire.
The 31-year-old has missed pre-season and most of the opening month of the campaign but he will be hoping to make up for lost time after penning a one-year contract with David Wagner’s Canaries, with the option of a further 12 months to follow. Norwich have started the season well and after winning two of their opening three games in the second tier, they currently sit third in the table.
The East Anglia outfit are fancied by many to push for promotion and with top-flight promotions at Middlesbrough and Leeds already on his CV, Forshaw will hope to help give Wagner’s side an extra push towards the top flight.
“I’ve watched the games in the first few weeks and been really impressed, I couldn’t wait to get in and try to be a part of it,” Forshaw told Norwich’s official site after joining the club.
“One of the main reasons I came here is because they have a great chance this year. A good mix of big characters and experience with a lot of youthfulness in the rest of the squad.
“The head coach has been there and done it before so everything is in place for us to go and be successful.”
Head coach Wagner added: “We always had the feeling of wanting to add another player into the midfield areas, and we’re delighted that we have been able to bring a player of Adam’s quality in.
“He knows this league very well and has lots of experience on this level. With everything we have heard about his character and personality, I get the feeling that he will be great for the dynamic of our squad, both on and off the field.”
Forshaw made 83 league appearances for Leeds during his time at Elland Road, including 12 last season in the Premier League. United are thought to have offered Forshaw a contract to remain at the club this season on reduced terms, but the midfielder chose to pursue pastures new this summer.
He’ll be hoping to feature against his former club when Leeds go to Carrow Road on October 21.
