Beto signs Everton contract after medical passed ahead of transfer completion

Beto has signed his contract to become an Everton player after passing his medical on Merseyside, according to talkSPORT.

The radio station reported via Twitter Monday night (28 August) that the striker had put pen to paper to become the latest arrival at Goodison Park this summer.

He had arrived in England over the weekend to undergo a medical with the Toffees ahead of this move from Udinese, and now the official announcement is all that is left.

Beto is set to cost an up-front fee of £20million with a few million more in “achievable” add-ons, and will join compatriot Youssef Chermiti as signings the club have spent money on this summer.

Over the line?

It sounds like any potential late pitfalls have been successfully navigated and the deal is sealed, which will put fans partially at rest.

Until it is made official and he is announced some will still be slightly on edge after so many false dawns in the pursuit of a new experienced striker.

At long, long last it looks like Everton have found one, and even Beto arrives at the second attempt after a failed bid in the previous January window.

The development should come as a huge boost to Sean Dyche who has seen attempts to bring in the likes of Rodrigo and El Bilal Touré fall flat this summer, but he looks to finally have his man.

At six foot four and with a league-scoring record of 21 Serie A goals in the past two seasons it is a move that has the potential to transform this Toffees side that looks so much more toothless without Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the pitch.

The latest Portuguese arrival, 25, will be expected to contribute faster than his junior predecessor Youssef Chermiti, but between them they are going to need to start hitting the net after three defeats without scoring to start the season.

Under a lot of pressure financially it is a relief for Everton to have finally landed a relatively big-money striker, and now he will need to produce the goods when it matters.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are still pushing for more signings before the deadline after Beto’s deal.
