BBC: Six free agents the “Whites” could still sign including a highly skilled 56-goal scorer

Leeds United can still add players to their squad through the free agency market

As is often the case with each summer, the closing of the transfer window does not mean that all business for Leeds United will be over as the club look to rebuild the squad under Daniel Farke. Although football clubs can no longer sign players from other clubs on the continent, you can still sign players who are no longer under contract anywhere.

And just like in recent years, there are talented, famous players looking for a new club. Many will be out of reach for Leeds just because of the wage demands they may incur, even if they don’t have a club to play with, but some will be fine.

We took a look at some of the players that are currently in demand, even adding some players that might be out of reach but still worth noting.

Andre Gray

Andre Gray explains 'easy decision' as Watford striker secures loan move

Leeds have added the prowess of a proven Championship goalscorer by signing Joel Piroe, but what about some additional firepower in the form of former Watford striker Andre Grey. Now 32 years old, Gray’s contract expires after terminating his contract with Aris Thessaloniki by mutual agreement.

A player who boasts a record of 56 goals in 146 league appearances, he is sure to be on the radar of several teams this week.

Alfredo Morelos

Another player with the experience and goalscoring record to keep an eye on is former Rangers star Morelos. The 27-year-old looked set to join Fenerbahce before the transfer window closed but that deal did not materialize. Morelos has scored 124 goals for the Glasgow giants.

jesse lingard

The former Manchester United and England star looked set to join Wayne Rooney in his DC United squad, only to find salary cap issues in the MLS prevented a deal from being struck. Lingard is currently without a club after being let go by Nottingham Forest last season.

Axel Tuanzebe

Another former Manchester United player, the 25-year-old will be a solid defensive addition to Leeds and has playing experience from his time at Stoke City. No club yet, he has been linked with several Championship teams.

Danny Rose

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke made it clear ahead of deadline day that he was happy with the club’s left-back options and that they would soon have Junior Firpo and Sam Byram back from injury to give the club the cover they needed. Still, how about throwing another option into the mix in the form of ex-Tottenham Hotspur star Rose. The 33-year-old has been without a club since Watford let him go last year but he has been hinting about a possible return to action.

Jerome Boateng

If Leeds are unlikely to make a move for Rose, you can file a deal for Boateng in the same “very doubtful’ category, still the vastly experienced defender is available and looking for a club.
