Newcastle has had a rocky start to the 2023/24 Premier League season, with key player injuries hampering the club’s ability to win games.
The Magpies have shown flashes of their form from previous season, but the truth is that they are still a long way from their best.
A 0-0 draw in the humidity of Milan, on the other hand, is likely to be viewed as a win, and if the club can obtain a positive result against Paris Saint-Germain in the next Champions League group game, it will set Eddie Howe’s team up wonderfully for the remaining fixtures.
Joe Willock will undoubtedly be absent, owing to the way he treated his current injury problems.
“We’re missing the two Joes in midfield, but I think we’re pretty good apart from that,” he stated at the pre-match news conference for the weekend’s game (h/t Shields Gazette).
“With Joelinton, we’re hoping he’ll be back sooner [than the international break], but Joe Willock will definitely be back after the international break.”
Willock is both close to and far from making a return, and when he does, Howe will undoubtedly regard him as a new signing, considering that it has been five months since his previous appearance.
If nothing else, it provides the management with another rotation option as Newcastle strives to attack every game and tournament in which they compete.
Willock’s inclusion in the next two Champions League group games would be an unexpected boost for the team.
