The 2013-14 season will not be remembered warmly by Aston Villa fans. When Football Manager 2014 was launched in October 2013, the club was on its way to a disappointing 15th-place finish and third-round exits from both domestic competitions.

This was a period when they were on the verge of winning the championship. The next year, they finished 17th before being relegated in last place with only 17 points.

However, there were a handful of outstanding prospects on the outskirts of Paul Lambert’s squad. FMScout identified five upcoming superstars from FM2014. We checked in on them a decade later.

Jores Okore Nordsjaelland, a Danish club, is well-known for developing promising youth, with Brentford duo Mathias Jensen and Mikkel Damsgaard among its academy graduates.

When Okore moved for Villa in the summer of 2013, he had previously made 78 appearances for the club and won the Danish Superliga. He arrived at the age of 18 for a cost of £4 million, making him Nordsjlland’s record selling at the time.

He spent his first season on the outskirts of Lambert’s squad before advancing to a more prominent role the following year. After failing to impress in an underperforming Villa team, the teenage centre-back moved to Denmark, signing for FC Copenhagen, following their relegation in 2016.
