JUST IN: Emery delivers an intriguing update on star player following his absence in Villa’s victory

Unai Emery, the manager of Aston Villa, has announced that Alex Moreno’s return has been postponed since he has not fully recovered from his injury.

The 30-year-old had hamstring surgery after injuring his hamstring in the final game of last season in May, and he has not played since.

Having returned to the bench in the last week after returning to group training during the recent international break, there was some hope that he was nearing a comeback.

However, after being left out of the matchday squad for our triumph over Chelsea on Sunday, Emery has indicated that Moreno will be rested for a little longer to ensure he is fully prepared to return.

“His injury was very hard,” he is quoted as saying by Jacob Tanswell of the Athletic. “He’s getting better, but he’s not completely comfortable playing.”

“We’ve decided to take a break for a few days, maybe a few weeks, to work with him and get him stronger.” He’s getting closer to making the squad.”

While this is a frustrating situation given that the Spaniard appeared to be on the approach of returning and having been so instrumental for us last season, it’s critical that he returns when he’s ready.

The last thing we want is for him to push himself too hard and re-injure himself, resulting in a lengthy absence from training and a larger step backwards.

Hopefully, it will only be a question of days rather than weeks, but the Villa medical professionals will definitely make the right decision for everyone involved.

While this does cast doubt on his participation in our upcoming games against Everton, Brighton, and even Zrinjski on October 5, it is hoped that Moreno will be back on the pitch and building match fitness before then, as he will be a huge boost for Emery to have at his disposal again.
