If Lucas Paqueta is banned, West Ham United’s wage verdict will be shared – Finance Expert
Dr. Daniel Plumley, a football finance expert, has joined us as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. He’ll be sharing his thoughts on the key talking points at the London Stadium every week…Lucas Paquetá: I will give everything to perform well | West Ham United F.C.

Dan Plumley has claimed that West Ham United will most likely continue to pay Lucas Paqueta’s entire salary if he is banned for betting violations.

According to UOL, Paqueta was summoned for a hearing by the Brazilian government on September 6, despite the fact that his initial hearing with the FA had been suspended.

The finance expert stated that unless there are conditions in his contract, his wage would still be paid by the club if he was banned, with issues like this now likely on clubs’ radar.

“You would assume so because the player is under contract, unless there are stipulations in that contract,” he told West Ham Zone exclusively.

“Those are things we don’t know from the outside looking in, whether or not it comes into negotiations, do you ask a player that if you’re thinking about singing them?”

“It’s another risk factor in transfer strategy; as much as we talk about injuries and player backgrounds, a lot of this doesn’t come to light until later on; there’s a broader problem for football in terms of how they stop it.

“You’re probably looking at putting it down to another inherent risk in transfers that’s always been there and sometimes you don’t find out until it comes to light and if there isn’t a regulatory clause in the contract that stipulates payment terms and something like this happens and a player is banned, then the club has to pay the wages contractually.”

“You’re getting into legal issues and contracts, but there is always a financial underpin and you go back to those wider risks in the system and this is probably on the radar of more clubs than it has been in the past.”
