NEWS UPDATE: West Ham star has already decided to leave in January and will be absent against Lincoln.

Pablo Fornals has one eye on the West Ham United exit amid Sevilla transfer news and will be absent from the game against Lincoln City.

Pablo Fornals was a rare starting for West Ham United in their 1-0 EFL Cup victory over Lincoln City on Wednesday, September 27.

The Hammers were extremely fortunate to break the deadlock against the League One side in the 70th minute when Tomas Soucek made a late run into the area to get on the end of Said Benrahma’s corner.

Lincoln were made to repent their several chances in the first half, and Alex Mitchell had a close-range attempt ruled out for offside after West Ham failed to deal with a long throw.

West Ham made ten changes to the team that lost 3-1 to Liverpool at the weekend, with Soucek the only player to keep his place. One player who will not have impressed Moyes was one of his most trusted and reliable lieutenants Fornals, who appeared to have his mind elsewhere after recent transfer exit rumours.

According to El Sevillista, a Spanish news site, Sevilla are hoping that West Ham will accept a “negligible” bid for the Spanish international in order to “get some profitability” and avoid losing him on a free transfer.

According to the report, Sevilla is already making preparations for the January market and has prioritized Fornals.

The Spaniard has been a vital tool for David Moyes on multiple occasions over the last two seasons, but with his contract expiring in a year, the East Londoners may be inclined to sell him soon.

And with his restricted position in the club currently, following the arrivals of Mohammed Kudus and James Ward-Prowse, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Fornals opt for a January move, as his performance on Wednesday evening demonstrated.

According to SofaScore, the Spanish international was nowhere to be found against League One opposition, recording just 44 touches and uncharacteristically completing only 76% of his passes – he’s usually so neat and tidy with them – he also failed in 100% of his crosses, 100% of his long-balls, 100% of his dribbles, recorded just two duels won, lost possession of the ball eleven times, and recorded one key pass all night.

According to Sean Whetstone (14 September), Fornals has rejected the prospect of a new contract at the London Stadium, and the Spaniard clearly played like a man who knows he won’t be on the club’s books for long.

A January departure is now quite likely. He might not begin.
