Roy Hodgson confirms it’s ‘not good news: Crystal Palace player undergo urgent surgery and he will be out of the season……

Roy Hodgson confirms ‘not good news’ on Dean Henderson’s thigh injury, with the Crystal Palace goalkeeper certain to miss time after limping off on his Eagles debut.

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson appears set for another spell on the sidelines, with manager Roy Hodgson admitting initial scans on a thigh injury ‘didn’t look like good news’. Henderson made a first start since joining the Eagles in a £20million move from Manchester United in the Carabao Cup tie against his old club on Tuesday night. The 26-year-old lasted less than 20 minutes before he was forced off and replaced by Sam Johnstone, who had been Palace’s regular number one this season.

Henderson’s loan tenure with Nottingham Forest was cut short last season due to a thigh injury that necessitated surgery.

While Hodgson is hopeful for better news from Henderson’s next series of tests before returning to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday, he admits the first diagnosis is not positive.

Roy Hodgson has stated that the latest update on Henderson’s injury ‘didn’t appear to be good news.’

On his Palace debut in the Carabao Cup, the £20 million summer signing lasted only 20 minutes.

‘He underwent a scan. ‘I’m sad to inform that the initial scan was not very positive,’ the Palace boss stated.

‘But he has another scan in a week, and maybe we’ll be lucky and see a little less damage than we saw in the first one, but it didn’t look good.’

Forward Odsonne Edouard also missed the cup match, which United won 3-0, and will not be pushed back into contention as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

Hodgson will make another change to his starting lineup for Saturday’s league game at Old Trafford, and he wants his players to rise to the occasion.

‘It’s a beautiful football stadium, and we’re playing against one of the top teams in the world – that’s something you should embrace and look forward to, rather than having concerns or fears about,’ he said.

United manager Erik ten Hag has been under scrutiny this season, but former England manager Hodgson believes the Dutchman will face the same issues as everyone else.
