Legend says Broncos key player is one of the best two props in history

The forward is a favorite to win the Clive Churchill Medal in 2023.

Kerrod Walters, a Brisbane Broncos great, has declared that Payne Haas is one of the best props of all time ahead of the 2023 Grand Final.

Walters made the statement after finishing in the Top 15 of the Dally M awards after leading the tally at some stage throughout the season and earning the Dally M Prop of the Year award.

Walters is the latest former rugby league icon to praise Haas’ abilities as he prepares for the biggest game of his young career.

I'm in awe, says Kerrod Walters | QRL

“I’m a big fan of Payne Haas and Pat Carrigan, and I think they’ve become great leaders,” Walters told SEN 1170 Sportsday.

“I did a thing on a podcast where I had to pick my greatest 13 (of all time), and one of the props was Haas.”

“That’s how much I think of him.”

The Broncos legend would then wonder why Payne Haas isn’t mentioned alongside Panthers halfback Nathan Cleary or Melbourne Storm’s Cameron Munster, despite winning four Dally M Prop of the Year accolades in the last five years.

“It should be like Nathan Cleary, he’s played in four Grand Finals and he’s only 25 years of age,” said Walters.

“What will his stats be like when he finishes his playing career?” Payne Haas will behave similarly.”

Not only will Haas be hungry to assist the Broncos win the NRL Premiership, but he is also a strong contender for the Clive Churchill Medal in 2023.

Haas, along with colleagues Adam Reynolds and Reece Walsh, as well as Penrith talents Dylan Edwards, Jarome Luai, and Nathan Cleary, is a strong contender for the prestigious accolade.
