Matheus Cunha explains why he was “a little bit afraid” about joining Wolves.

Matheus Cunha has fallen for Molineux, but the Brazilian forward confesses he was nervous about relocating from Madrid to the Black Country.

Wolves forward Matheus Cunha admits he was nervous about moving to the Black Country at first, but the 24-year-old is now enjoying life at Molineux after leaving Madrid for the West Midlands.

Cunha joined Wolves on loan from Atletico Madrid in January before signing a permanent deal for £44 million in the summer. After overcoming his initial culture shock, the striker claims to be fully involved in the club’s work ethic.

“I’m overjoyed,” Cunha stated. “It was difficult to relocate because Madrid is more like Latin people, similar to Brazilians, and to be honest, my family and I were a little afraid to come here.”

“But what I saw was incredible.” The people here are quite friendly to me and my family, and the vibe in Wolverhampton is fantastic. Although it is not a large city, everyone knows you and supports you. The city lives for the club, and Molineux reflects that.

Why Wolves believe Matheus Cunha can be the No 9 fans wanted - The Athletic

“I’m delighted to be here, delighted to be with this group, delighted to be at this club.” And it’s clear from the pitch.”

Wolves went into the international break on a high after a late comeback triumph over Tottenham, with Cunha assisting Pablo Sarabia’s 90th-minute equalizer before Mario Lemina took all three points.

Cunha believes the team’s battling abilities represent the fanbase’s blue-collar origins.

“We understand Wolverhampton’s history and the people who live here.” And we must battle for them on the field,” he continued. “We’ve got to put some heart into our boots and run like that.” We’ll show everyone that we’re here to support the city, the club, and the family.”

And Cunha, who has scored twice this season, believes that Wolves must just execute at that level consistently in order to be successful.

“We have big games now, we have to continue like this and fight to the end,” he told reporters. “We really feel like a family, and I feel like I’m a big part of it because the atmosphere was incredible.” All we have to do now is play well.”
