Wolves star player now admits he wants to leave Molineux
Wolves midfielder Joe Hodge has stated that he would prefer to leave the club on loan this month in order to receive more playing time.
Hodge’s season has been disappointing thus far, as he has only made one appearance this season.
That happened in the Carabao Cup against Blackpool, when he was forced off after 55 minutes with a hamstring injury.
That sidelined Hodge for a few weeks, and the Irish youngster’s injury curse struck again soon after.
Hodge needed shoulder surgery, which meant more time away from the game, and he only recently returned to the squad. He came off the bench in both games against Brentford and Everton, but he has yet to play since his comeback.
It’s possible he’ll do it in a different team’s jersey now…
Joe Hodge says he would now like a loan move away from Wolves
It’s been a tough season for Hodge, because when he has been available to play, he’s got players in front of him who are proven and in really good form.
Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes have been outstanding this season, while Gary O’Neil also has Tommy Doyle and Boubacar Traore at his disposal.
Hodge understands that if he remains, his playing time would be limited, thus he has not shown a desire to go out on loan.
He told the Irish Examiner, “I need to get back on my feet because things haven’t fallen my way due to injuries.”
“I want to go out on loan, I am speaking to people and I am waiting to see what comes up and what options I have and I want to play as high as I can.
“I definitely want to get out there as soon as soon as I can. Obviously I want to play football and hopefully something will happen.
Fair play to Hodge
So Hodge has made his intentions clear – and he deserves praise for wanting to get out there and play.
Hodge has previously spoken about being open to a loan move, and now it sounds as though it’s something he very much wants. The 21-year-old also said that he has spoken to O’Neil about his situation.
It’s tough for him at the moment with four players ahead of him, plus Matheus Cunha and Pablo Sarabia are both able to operate as advanced midfielders.
He recognises that he’s not in the best situation and wants to do something about it.
Hopefully, he can get to a club and feature heavily. Whoever lands him will be getting a young player with quality and hunger.
