Wolves transfer target stance issued after failed £27m EPL club bid

Latest Wolves transfer news, as one probable position is set to improve.

Gary O’Neil has reportedly encouraged Wolves to pursue a deal for a La Liga player this summer.

According to Spanish source Fichajes, O’Neil is looking for a goalkeeper when the transfer window opens and has already identified a target. According to local media, they are targeting Alvaro Valles and have already made contact with him.

The 26-year-old is now on Las Palmas’ roster and is expected to play an important role in the club’s successful return to La Liga this season. He has played 31 league games this season, conceding only 36 goals and keeping eight clean sheets.

His performances piqued Nottingham Forest’s interest, and it was believed that the Reds rejected a £17 million bid for him during the January transfer window. Zach Lowry claims ‘he will leave this summer’ as a result of the player’s refusal to extend his contract.

Club president Miguel Angel Ramirez recently disclosed that Valles turned down the opportunity to sign a new deal. This might mean a departure this summer, and they will be eager to cash in on him rather than lose him for free.

Portuguese shot stopper Jose Sa has been O’Neil’s first choice this season, but he has experienced several injuries. Dan Bentley has filled in for him while Sa is absent, and Tom King is his third choice.

Sa has kept six clean sheets in 36 games this season, including four in the Premier League. The 31-year-old made his international debut for Portugal in November 2023, but did not appear against Sweden or Slovenia. He joined the club in 2021 and is under contract until 2027, therefore any move for a new goalkeeper would likely result in the sale of Sa.
