Norwich City are currently locked in a tense battle for promotion and are looking to make a new addition to the squad before the January transfer window slams shut on Thursday, according to reports.Celtic vs Norwich City: Live stream, TV channel, kick-off time & how to watch | Goal.com Nigeria

The Canaries missed a huge chance to move into the top six of the Championship for the first time in months with a 1-0 defeat away at Leeds United on Wednesday. An early goal from former Norwich striker Patrick Bamford separated the two sides on the night.

The biggest strength for Norwich City under David Wagner this season has been the side’s ability to score goals, having bagged 46 times in just 29 matches. Only five teams have scored more goals than Wagner’s men this term.

However, the team’s major flaw has been their ability to stop goals from going in at the other end. The Canaries have conceded 44 goals already in the 2023/24 Championship campaign which is the seventh-worst defensive record in England’s second tier.

Nevertheless, Wagner is looking to bolster his midfield department before the winter window closes. According to a new report from the Daily Echo, Norwich City are eyeing up a swoop for Dundee United’s starlet Lewis O’Donnell before Thursday’s deadline.

The report also states that the side face fierce competition from their East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town as well as fellow promotion chasers Watford for the 18-year-old’s signature.

O’Donnell is on loan with Kelty Hearts at the moment and has made 22 appearances for the side in all competitions, scoring once and recording two assists, having recently extended his loan spell until the end of the campaign.

If a deal with Norwich City or any of the other suitors comes to fruition, O’Donnell’s loan spell with Kelty will likely come to an abrupt end. However, this signing is certainly one for the future and won’t help the Canaries earn promotion back to the Premier League.

Nevertheless, it seems clear that Wagner wants to bolster his midfielder this winter, having already been linked with a move for Sporting de Gijon midfielder Jonathan Varane, with Queens Park Rangers said to be interested in the Frenchman too.
