Oklahoma Sooners has landed another top class OL via transfer portal

The Sooners added another offensive lineman on Monday, bringing in a veteran from one of the nation’s top teams.

Geirean Hatchett, a former Washington offensive lineman, announced Monday afternoon that he is transferring to Oklahoma.

Hatchett revealed on Thursday that he was leaving the Huskies after four years, having played infrequently in the last two seasons.

In 2023, the 6-foot-4, 303-pound guard earned a 59.8 offensive grade from Pro Football Focus, down from 72.6 in 2022. This season, the redshirt junior played 264 offensive snaps in Kalen DeBoer’s scheme, garnering a 45.5 pass blocking grade and a 62.0 run blocking mark, according to Pro Football Focus.

Hatchett played only 71 snaps last year, ending with a 67.0 pass blocking mark and a 70.1 run blocking grade. Hatchett spent the majority of his time at Washington playing right guard, but he appeared briefly at left guard versus Texas in the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Hatchett, from Ferndale, WA, was a 4-star recruit out of high school, ranking as the No. 8 guard and No. 207 overall player in the 247Sports composite rankings.

With the Sooners losing Cayden Green, Caleb Shaffer, McKade Mettauer, Savion Byrd, and Nate Anderson at guard, Hatchett’s commitment is critical for Bill Bedenbaugh and his staff as OU prepares to join the SEC.

Hatchett isn’t the only new face in the trenches; Febechi Nwaiwu, Michael Tarquin, and Spencer Brown also transferred to Norman during the summer.

With Andrew Raym, Tyler Guyton, Walter Rouse, Mettauer, and Green leaving the program, Oklahoma must entirely rebuild its offensive line for the 2024 season.

Bedenbaugh should have a solid bunch to work with moving into spring practice after adding four seasoned offensive lineman from the transfer portal and re-signing Jacob Sexton and others.
