South Carolina has just made a shocking announcement
The University of South Carolina has established a collaboration with a shirt maker to memorialize the late, famous superfan Gamecock Jesus.
What makes sports so magical is the connection that can be formed between an entire fanbase or a single fan and a team. For a long time, when people thought of South Carolina basketball, they were likely thinking of Carlton Thompson, also known as Gamecock/Baseline Jesus. Thompson graduated from the school’s College of Nursing and has been a fan since 1968, when the great Frank McGuire coached the Gamecocks on the opening night of the Carolina Coliseum.
Unfortunately, Carlton passed away in December, leaving a loss in the hearts of all Gamecock basketball fans. Since then, many have been waiting for any news of potential plans to honor this iconic alum, fan, and person, and that news finally arrived today, as the athletic department, in collaboration with Palmetto Shirt Co., will sell a commemorative t-shirt with all revenues going to charity.
@GamecocksOnline and @PalmettoShirt have partnered to honor Carlton Thompson, affectionately known as “Gamecock Jesus.”
All proceeds from each t-shirt purchased through Palmetto Shirt Company will be donated to the Special Olympics of South Carolina.
