After leaving the Souths and joining Bath in 2014, Burgess became a dual-code player. He made his Premiership debut in November of the same year.

Prior to England’s home 2015 World Cup campaign, in which Stuart Lancaster’s team was eliminated after the group stage for the first time, Burgess was called up for the national team.

However, Burgess announced on November 5 that he will be joining the Souths on a three-year contract to return to the NRL following a year as a union player.

He remarked, “I want to thank everyone at Bath and England for some wonderful memories over the last 12 months.”

“I would especially like to thank Bath for allowing me to be released so I could go back to my family, who I have missed more than I could have ever imagined.

“I’m also very happy to be reuniting with South Sydney.” I can’t wait to re-experience the amazing people and fervent members and supporters of the Rabbitohs.

“I had a great time in England and gained a lot of knowledge about the game of rugby union, which has helped me grow as an athlete and all-around player as a back and a forward.”

Burgess remained a member of the Rabbitohs until his 2019 rugby retirement.

After that, he became a member of the Australian club’s coaching staff before agreeing to become Warrington’s head coach in August.
