“I want to go”: Texas Longhorns star player admits he wants to leave

Texas Longhorns star player admits he wants to leave

Terrance Brooks, a starting cornerback for the Texas Longhorns, is going to the NCAA Transfer Portal.

This offseason, the Texas Longhorns suffered what may be their most significant loss to the NCAA transfer portal.

On Tuesday, projected starting cornerback Terrance Brooks revealed his desire to enter the portal, potentially leaving a major vacuum at the position coming into the fall.

Brooks is the sixth Longhorn to enter the portal since the beginning of April, following Derrian Brown, S’Maje Burrell, Billy Walton III, Payton Kirkland, J’Mond Tapp, Zac Swanson, Savion Red, and Ky Woods.

I’d like to thank God, my family, and the Longhorn Nation for everything,” Brooks said in a statement on X. “At this time, I will be entering into the transfer portal.”

The Longhorns will now be in a bit of a positional problem. Malik Muhammad will most likely take one spot, while Gavin Holmes may fill in for Brooks on the opposite side.

Another option may see Muhammad on one side and either Jaylon Guilbeau or Jahdae Barron filling in for Brooks’ absence, with the other remaining in the’star’ or nickel role.

The Longhorns will still have Austin Jordan waiting in the wings, while Wardell Mack, Kobe Black, and other young players might help replace the loss. Still, it will be a difficult loss for Texas.

Coming out of high school, he was listed as a five-star recruit, the No. 24 player nationally, the No. 3 cornerback, and the No. 6 player in Texas, according to On3.

Brooks appeared in 23 games, starting 19, across his two seasons with the Horns, and will make 13 of 14 starts in 2023. Brooks finished his final season with 20 tackles, three interceptions, and six passes defended, earning honorable mention All-Big 12 honors.
