According to journalist Alex Pintanel, Barcelona are viewing the purchase of Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso as “difficult” since the Blues continue to play hardball despite reaching an agreement on personal conditions. Even Marina Granovskaia is no longer a member of the management at Chelsea, which has seen numerous changes within the club. The Blues are still holding out hope for their remaining defenders despite having already lost Andreas Christensen to Barcelona and Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid. Days earlier, it was reported that if the aforementioned pair chose to go in the summer, Chelsea would not obstruct their plans. However, while he does have a contract in place with Barcelona, the Blaugrana are still awaiting a final payment. It turns out that Alonso in particular has voiced a desire to return to Spain. “I’ve already stated that I’d like it [to return to Spain], but ultimately, it’s not fully up to me. It is obvious that Alonso harbors the desire to play in Spain someday, SPORT reported earlier this month. Chelsea chose to start the one-year extension for Azpilicueta a few weeks ago, but Barcelona is still interested in the seasoned player because Xavi thinks he would be the ideal right-back. It turns out that Barcelona has made him an offer for a two-year deal, and despite the challenges, the offer is essentially still on the table. In terms of Chelsea, it is obvious that their defense needs to be reorganized. Only a few defenders will be left for Thomas Tuchel to work with if Azpilicieta and Alonso decide to leave. Therefore, it makes sense to assume that Chelsea won’t approve the sale of the duo absent the acquisition of suitable replacements. As of right now, rumors of their interest in Jules Kounde, Milan Skriniar, and Nathan Ake are circulating, but none of these agreements have moved.
