Manchester City confirmed on Monday that they’ve agreed a new deal with Ruben Dias to extend his contract until 2027. The 24-year-old’s existing deal ran until 2026, but he’s bagged himself an extra year and The Sun say Dias has doubled his wages in the process.

The Portuguese international joined Man City from Benfica in September 2020 and has gone on to make 54 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal with one assist. In his first season in Manchester, Dias led City to the Premier League title and Champions League final, so he’s made an instant impact.

Dias’ efforts are being rewarded by City in the form of a massive payrise. The 24-year-old earned £90k-per-week at the Etihad Stadium but will now take home £180k-per-week – that means the Portuguese centre-back stands to earn £9.36m-a-year and £56.2m by 2027.

Dias, who made 137 appearances for SL Benfica between 2017 and 2020, has played every minute of every game under Pep Guardiola this campaign. He partnered John Stones at the back for most of last season and helped keep 27 clean sheets in 50 games, but he’s already played alongside Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte this time round.
