Kaide Gordon has proven a whirlwind success since completing Liverpool transfer from Derby County in February

Liverpool are set to offer Kaide Gordon a first professional contract after the youngster made an impressive start to his Anfield career.

Gordon turned 17 on Tuesday, meaning the club are permitted to offer up to a three-year deal to the winger they signed from Derby County in February for a fee that could reach in excess of £3million.

While there is no immediate rush for an agreement, there is a contract in the pipeline with Liverpool keen to reward the player for his swift progress through the ranks.

Gordon made an instant impact with the under-18s following his arrival and scored on his U23s debut in May before being permanently promoted to the higher age group this season.

He caught the eye of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp when part of a group of Academy players who trained with the senior squad during pre-season, and featured in several pre-season friendlies including the Anfield win over Osasuna. And Gordon became the fifth-youngest player to feature in the Liverpool first team when, aged 16 years 351 days, he started the Carabao Cup win at Norwich City last month.
